BEER SELECTION

  • Galbraiths

Established in 1995, the Galbraith's brand is as iconic an Auckland beer brand, as is the building the Brewery resides in. The aim is to produce Old World beer styles made fresh here in New Zealand avoiding the spoilage that many beers experience during the voyage from Europe to New Zealand. Keith uses some winemaking philosophies when crafting the beers and believes that you can't make good beer without top ingredients. The beer in the glass is only as good as what went in to it in the first place. "You can't make a silk purse out of a Sow's Ear" is a saying that often springs forth from Keith. In much the same way that Bordeaux can only be made in Bordeaux Galbraith's source their ingredients almost exclusively from the places where the style they are reproducing came. Terroir has as much influence on beer's raw ingredients as it does on wine.

  • Mountain Goat

The Mountain Goat story started in the early 1990s when two regular Aussie blokes, Cam Hines and Dave Bonighton, shared a passion for craft beer. Travelling the world, sniffing out microbreweries in the Northern hemisphere they returned to Melbourne with not much more than a couple of surfboards and an old EH Holden. Their fascination for craft beer had stuck and in 1996, Mountain Goat was conceived. Mountain Goat has picked up a swag of awards including Gold at the 2012 Australian International Beer Awards, Silver at the 2013 Australian International Beer Awards and top honours at the 2013 Beerfest Asia. Mountain Goat was also rated in the Top 20 Australian Beers - The Australian Newspaper Nov 11. Still 100% independently owned, the boys are still very hands-on with the operation of the brewery that also doubles as a public watering hole over the weekends. Dave has the appetite for brewing, while Cam handles logistical and sales side of the company
